Enligt en artikel på Search Engine Land testar Google en ny mjukvara som ska hjälpa människor att hantera sin elförbrukning.

På google.org kan man läsa:

“Google PowerMeter, now in prototype, will receive information from utility smart meters and energy management devices and provide anyone who signs up access to her home electricity consumption right on her iGoogle homepage. The graph below shows how someone could use this information to figure out how much energy is used by different household activites.”

Google säger att detta kan leda till besparingar på 5 till 15 procent för konsumenter och systemet som helhet.

Få bättre information om hur du använder energi och vad du kan göra för att bli effektivare.

Spara:
Minska dina energikostnader och koldioxidavtryck genom smarta beslut om din energianvändning.

Starta lite vänskaplig konkurrens för att se hur energiförbrukningen kan jämföras med dina vänner och grannar.

Tänk om Google kunde påverka elbolagens kartelliknande priser också…

Sedan en tid tillbaka använder Google en ny funktion som, när du exempelvis stavar fel, föreslår ‘menade du:‘ med en lista på topp-2 resultat på den “korrekta” träffen.

Detta är förvisso en jättebra funktion, då man når de besökare som faktiskt har råkat stava fel. Men det finns fall där ‘Menade du:’ orsakar sämre placeringar i sökresultaten för vissa webbplatser.

Search Engine Roundtable rapporterar om ett fall där sökordet “ecotrimmer” resulterar i Googles ‘Menade du:’ och därmed puttar ned en webmasters webbplats några placeringar i sökresultatet.

Bara för att Google “vill” dela upp “ecotrimmer” i två ord.

Jag har själv fått sämre placeringar i sökresultaten med Googles ‘Menade du:’. Några av mina mest välbesökta bloggposter handlar om felstavade sökord och numera kommer de inte längre i topp i googles sökresultat.

Tyvärr märker jag detta tydligt i mina intäkter från Google AdSense.

Jag har tidigare bloggat och undrat om Google AdSense betalar sämre 2009?

Jag ställer mig fortfarande den frågan, eftersom mina egna siffror inte ser lika bra ut som under 2008. Jag har lägre intäkter med Google AdSense 2009.

Nu läser jag på Search Engine Roundtable att jag är långt ifrån ensam om att konstatera detta. Många Google AdWords-annonsörer skär ned budgeten på grund av minskad försäljning.

Google AdSense-publicister kan svara på en undersökning om intäkterna har sjunikt de senaste veckorna och resultatet i skrivande stund redovisas nedan.

Häromdagen trollade Google bort Nya Zeeland från kartan i Google Maps. Tydligen berodde det på den mänskliga faktorn och Mike CH på Google bekräftar detta på Google Maps Help:
