Google fortsätter att dominera

Google är den mest använda sökmotorn och har varit det under en lång tid. SearchEngineWatch rapporterar om en ny undersökning från comScore som visar att Google fortsätter att dominera.

Här är sökmotorernas marknadsandelar i mars 2009.

Men det har inte alltid varit så.

Jag kommer ihåg början av 90-talet när internet var i sin linda och när AltaVista och Mosaic Web Browser såg dagens ljus.

Google visar fler webbplatslänkar

Idag meddelar Google att de kommer att visa webbplatslänkar för fler webbplatser än bara den högst upp i sökresultaten framöver.

webbplatslankarWebbplatslänkar är ett antal direktlänkar till undersidor som Google tror ger en bra bild av vad webbplatsen handlar om.

Nu kan upp till fyra webbplatslänkar i en rad visas för webbplatser som inte tidigare haft webbplatslänkar i sökresultaten. Även för webbplatser som inte ligger högst upp. På Google Webmaster Central Blog skriver de följande:

We’re now launching an expansion of sitelinks: a single row of links can now appear for results that didn’t show sitelinks before, even for results that aren’t in the first position. This means multiple results on one query can now have sitelinks. Up to four sitelinks can show up right above the page URL, instead of the usual two columns below the URL of the first result.

Jag har dessvärre ännu inte kunnat återskapa en sökning med dessa extra webbplaslänkar. Jag misstänker att detta är något som rullas ut och som kommer inom kort. Läs mer om nyheten här.

How to research misspelled keywords

I have stated in previous posts that [tag]misspelled keywords[/tag], typos and spelling errors, are a source of extremely targeted traffic and that many of these errors can result in number one spots in some of the top search engines – completely by accident.

I still believe this to be true.

Now I will share with you how to research misspelled keywords in order to find a potential top spot in the search engines. My goal is to do this with as little effort required as possible.

Typo Generator1. First go to Typo Generator and enter a word or a phrase. In my example below I will use the keyword ‘Google‘, trying to find interesting typos to use.

Misspelled keywords2. Check all boxes and click the ‘generate typos‘ button.

Now you should have a long list of misspelled keywords.

3. Copy all the keywords (Ctrl-a)(Ctrl-c).

Google AdWords Keyword Tool4. Go to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool and paste (Ctrl-v) the list.

5. Type in the captcha (the characters you see in the picture) and click the ‘Get keywords ideas‘ button.

How to research misspelled keywords6. Order the column ‘Approx Avg Search Volume‘ to show the most searched keywords first.

Now, if you look at the ‘keywords‘ column to the left, you will have an ordered list of keywords to examine closer. In my case some of the keywords are actually correctly spelled words, but from keywords number 5 and 6 things are getting interesting.

Google search resultsIf you do a search on keyword number 5 in the list, googl, the result would look like this.

In my opinion, this keyword is not worth the effort as Google has the top spot with sitelinks. It would require lots and lots of links to snatch the first position from Google. Remember, we are aiming for the sitting ducks.

How to research misspelled keywords 2Keyword number 6 in the list, gooogle, is however not yet taken by Google and it may, and I say may, be interesting to go for.

GoogleerthNow do a search on keyword number 10, googleerth, and watch the results.

This is the proof that misspelled [tag]keywords [/tag]and [tag]typos[/tag] can result in number one spots in the top search engines!

Detta bör en bra 404-sida innehålla

Jag har tidigare skrivit om att det är viktigt att ha en 404-sida. Det är ju den sidan som fångar upp besökare som har råkat hamna fel på din blogg.

Traditionella 404-sidor är väldigt tråkiga och kan därför behöva pimpas lite, något som jag gav exempel på i inlägget 250 kreativa och roliga 404-sidor. Utöver att en bra [tag]404[/tag]-sida bör vara iögonfallande och lite rolig, så bör den även vara informativ.

Loren Baker på Daily SEO Tip skrev nyligen ett inlägg om vad en bra 404-sida bör innehålla. Loren listar ett antal saker du bör tänka på när du utformar din 404-sida, bland annat att sidan bör:

- vara tydlig med att sidan som söktes inte hittades
- ha samma utseende som resten av bloggen
- ha länkar till viktiga sidor på bloggen

Genom att ha en bra 404-sida som inkluderar ovanstående information, ökar du chanserna att din vilsna besökare faktiskt hittar det han/hon letade efter.
